Researching BOMBER BOYS

The author sketching a Lancaster bomber at the RAF Museum, Hendon, while researching BOMBER BOYS.

The rear gun turret of a Lancaster bomber. I wondered if the chutes below the guns were for dropping flares, but my uncle (who served in the RAF just after the war) later told me they were for the spent bullet cartridges to drop through.

Two pages of sketches made at the RAF museum. A WAAF in headphones, an oxygen mask and a heated gauntlet. More BOMBER BOYS research.
